Description

AKA Muhammad Ali, Cassius Clay shook up the world and proclaimed himself "The Greatest" upon beating Sonny Liston on 2/25/64, to claim the boxing heavyweight championship. Celebrate Ali's first title victory in high style, with this Ring Magazine commemorative 1964 championship belt. An ornately framed medallion at center proclaims "The Ring Championship Belt Worn by Cassius Clay". Accompanying this extravagant adornment, are four smaller medallions, including two with relief boxing figures, and two with engraved details. The engraved medallion to the left of center reads " Cassius Clay Defeated Sonny Liston Via 7 Round T.K.O., Feb. 25, 1964"; and the one on the right reads "For the Heavyweight Championship of the World, Miami Beach, FL. U.S.A.". A vibrant multi-color ribbon backs the bronze decorations, and a pair of leather straps complete the design. A few nicks on the lettering of the centerpiece are the only discernible signs of wear, and otherwise this captivating belt presents in outstanding condition.
