Before there was an NFL, there was the Ohio League and its dominant member team the Massillon Tigers. Though this early 20th Century powerhouse pro team played its final game about a hundred years ago, the Tigers name lives on with the celebrated Massillon Washington High school team, which adopted the Tigers nickname for its highly competitive football squad. Recall the proud tradition of Massillon football with this 1950 Stanford Pottery Massillon Tigers mascot bank. This stunning ceramic icon is a collectible treasure that shows tremendous display appeal. Outfitted in the team's orange and black colors with an oversized Tiger head, this captivating creation stands tall at 8-1/2", with an 3-3/4" oval base. A hardy survivor to be sure, this seventy year old statue shows a few small factory firing imperfections where the paint glaze did not take, with three on the green base and one on the back of the right arm. It is noted that these small flecks of white are not wear or damage and overall this high quality example presents at the (NM) level. Judging from the scant few examples offered in the modern era, this early Stanford Pottery piece positions as fairly scarce, making it a great find.
