Back in the mid-20th Century, the fine folks at Stanford Pottery turned out a handsome line of ceramic sports figurals. Today these dynamic statues stand as collector favorites, prized for their broad display appeal. Based in Sebring, Ohio, Stanford Pottery began operations in 1945 and produced classic collectibles until the factory was leveled by a fire in 1961. Surviving back stock was offered through the mid-1960s, which brings us to this fantastic coin bank that celebrates the founding of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in neighboring Canton, Ohio. This nicely detailed statue bank takes the form of a turn of the century football player with handlebar moustache, that stands 7" tall on a 3-1/2 x 2-3/4" base. The front of the base bears block lettering that reads "Pro Football Hall of Fame Canton, Ohio". This lettering remains full and under magnified examination, this spectacular figure presents as nearly pristine with only minute traces of wear noted, to earn a (NM-MT) rating.
