Batfans follow the Bat-Signal to this tremendous hoard of Batman comic books. Along with Superman, DC's top selling character Batman gave rise to the super-hero genre. Follow three and a half decades of the Caped Crusader's exploits, with this comprehensive bundle of (2,500+) issues dating from 1980-2016. These never read comics swing into auction action in generally pristine (average VF-NM 9.0 to NM-MT 9.8, 5% lesser) condition, with the possibility some could grade as MINT. Upping the ante are (1,000+) issues which are autographed with (average "8" to "10") by contributing artists and writers, who made these Bronze/Copper/Modern Age books the prize collectibles they are.

This gigantic throng centers on Batman and his well-known sidekicks Robin and Batgirl, along with his line-up of famous arch-enemy super-villains The Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, Bane, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Penguin, Riddler, Scarecrow, Clayface, Mr. Freeze and many others. Some of the numerous titles included in considerable quantities are Batman Series 1, Batman Series 2, Batman Series 3, Detective Comics, Batman & Robin, Batman Confidential, Batman Eternal, The Dark Knight, Legends of the Dark Knight, Robin, Batgirl, Batman Chronicles, Gotham Adventures, Shadow of the Bat, plus smaller groups of numerous other titles.

Featured signing artists and writers include Chuck Dixon, Mark Waid, Wayne Faucher, Greg Land, Scott McDaniel, Matt Wagner, James Tynion IV, Norm Bregfoyle, Amanda Connor, Dick Giordano, Marv Wolfman, George Perez, Mark Bagley, Tony Daniel, Scott Hanna, Kelley Jones, George Rucka, Scott Williams, Judd Winick, Alex Maleev, J. Scott Campbell, Brian Bolland, David Finch, Alex Ross, Jae Lee, Jimmy Palmiotti, Graham Nolan, John Layman, Sandu Florea, Tony Bedard, Tom Taylor, Paul Gulacy, Gail Simone, Phil Noto and others.

Top prize is a Batman original Series 1 partial run of (250+) issues numbered between 323-710, including: #321 with Joker cover story signed by Walt Simonson/Dick Giordano; #332 "Catwoman's first solo"; the "Year One" arc with issues #404, #405, #406 and #407"; "A Death in the Family" #426 signed by Jim Starlin; the "Year Three" story arc with #436 1st appearance of Timothy Drake signed by Marv Wolfman/George Perez; and #500 Anniversary issue. Another crowd pleaser is a healthy contingent of Detective Comics numbered between 500-900 with #572 "50th Anniversary" issue signed by Dick Girodano, plus issue #437 "New Manhunter Begins" signed by Walt Simonson. It is also noted that the more recent comics include plenty of first appearance issues and variant covers.

Altogether we have supremely popular characters in prime condition comics, with more than a thousand autographs of renowned writers and artists, a healthy supply of important issues including Bronze Age classics, a wide variety of titles, a dazzling array of cover art and abundant grading possibilities, adding up to a truly fantastic collection.

This is one of 9 large lots of comic books from the Michael Solof collection that are being offered in our current auction. All of these lots feature high grade comics, with a good number that are signed. Solof, who worked at Geppi's Entertainment Museum in Baltimore as the "Collection and Exhibits Manager", has stated that he personally acquired the autographs directly from the artists and writers. Please see our Americana/Comics category to review this collection.
