Comedian Stan Laurel (d.1965) was one of the few silent film era stars to make a successful transition to "talkies". Shortly before the dawn of sound pictures in 1927, Laurel teamed up with friend Oliver Hardy to form one of the first great movie comedy teams, "Laurel & Hardy". For his pioneering comedy work, Laurel was bestowed with a Lifetime Achievement Academy Award in 1961. From the height of his popularity, comes this signed bank check.

Dated 5/17/30 is Laurel's personal check #537, drawn on the California National Bank of Beverly Hills. With deference to three period vertical compacting folds and typical cancellation perforations, this 8x3 payment voucher reports in solid (VG-EX+) condition, with fully legible printed and written text. Laurel's endorsement shows ("8") potency in the standard location at bottom right, however the upper loop of the letter "S" in "Stan" is overlapped by a bank processing stamp. Accompanying is a 1991 postmarked FDC with art illustration of Laurel and Hardy, which will make a fine presentation when mounted with the check in framed display. Full photo LOA from PSA/DNA.
