Boxing fans score a knockout of a prize with this fabulous souvenir fight pin. On 7/4/31 heavyweight contenders Max Baer and Paulino Uzcudun met at the Race Track Arena in Reno, NV for a bout that went 20 rounds. A rugged woodchopper from the Basque region of Spain, Uzcudun came out on top of the fierce ring battle, which was officiated by legendary champ Jack Dempsey. This Independence Day event is recalled with this exciting and scarce pin and ribbon ensemble. The fights contestants are depicted on a 1-1/2" brass disc with names, date and location, attached by hoop to an ornate bar at top. The brass bar also supports a 2 x 5-1/2" ribbon, which reads "Souvenir Reno Nevada, Jack Dempsey Referee" followed by a horse race scene at bottom. Decorated with blue enamel, the dynamic pin shows solid (EX) detail, while the ribbon shows age appropriate wear including a 1/2" tear at left and moderate edge fraying. This seldom seen piece is being started well below market value and positions as a great find for advanced boxing collectors.
