Having secured contracts with the vast majority of Major League Baseball players during the 1960s, Kentucky’s famed Hillerich & Bradsby plant put a stranglehold on the children’s market, as well. Issued during the 1967 season, this point of sale poster is one of a handful of known survivors! The promotional item measures 22-5/8 x 35” and, in addition to its eye-catching vibrant colors, showcases “star power” like you’ve never seen! Atop the poster, “LOUISVILLE SLUGGER” and “Approved Little League Bats” are proclaimed against bright red and yellow backdrops. Just below, the central image shows eight symmetrically lined bats with model numbers to the left and players’ names on the barrels. Just to the right of each, a blank oval was meant to facilitate the entry of the weapon’s retail price (these remain blank on this unused display keepsake!) Along the bottom, black-and-white player likenesses are accompanied by the appropriate facsimile signatures. The three-tier arrangement displays like a “Who’s Who” of 1967 greats. Featured are (from left to right): Tier 1: Joe Torre, Jim Fregosi, Ernie Banks, Carl Yastrzemski, Roberto Clemente, Pete Rose, Hawk Harrelson, Frank Robinson; Tier 2: Mickey Mantle, Willie Horton, Roger Maris, Rusty Staub, Tim McCarver, Al Kaline; Tier 3: Tony Oliva, Rocky Colavito, Hank Aaron, Brooks Robinson, Orlando Cepeda. While this item’s decidedly scarce population makes it appealing from the start, the condition of this example is arguably the best of the few examples extant. The brittle paper remains rolled and is free of any creases, folds or foxing. There is a tear of just over one inch along the lower border and very minor chips along the top and right-side borders, making this an ideal candidate for proud framed display.
