With war shortages fast approaching, it's a miracle that Gum, Inc. managed to produce this classic set at all—let alone with such luxurious colors. It was the third and final issue in Play Ball's trilogy, and it of course marks one of the most significant baseball seasons in history, with Joltin' Joe's streak, Teddy Ballgame's .400 clip and the Iron Horse's death all occurring in '41. What's more, this final major pre-war set holds a distinction as the only contemporary set ever to showcase the entire DiMaggio fraternity. Little wonder, then, that 1941 Play Ball has remained so immensely popular among modern card collectors, including the signed-card collectors in pursuit of these fresh offerings in our current auction.
The headliner is this fine example from the Beast, whose black-ink "8-9" signature immediately draws the eye. VG-EX condition. Encapsulated as "Authentic" by PSA/DNA.
